Course Description

This course is designed to explore the application of nuclear reactors to space propulsion in their two main versions: nuclear thermal (NTP) and nuclear electric (NEP) propulsion. This new edition has been created with suggestions of members of the American Institute of aeronautics and Astronautics’ (AIAA) Nuclear and Future Flight Propulsion (NFFP) technical panel. The proposed schedule covers the physics of nuclear propulsion, the application of these principles to rocket propulsion, and an analysis of the most recent proposals in Page 1 of 13the field of nuclear space propulsion. Students interested in the area will get a solid formation on the technology that not only will propel spacecraft in deepspace mission, but may also serve to produce energy in space and on celestial bodies.
